BCM212 #MyCuriosity

Developing curiosity helps us to communicate better. When we are curious about something,  we ask questions leading us to new found knowledge and a better understanding of an area we are eager to learn more about.

During the first week of tutorials we created a mind map of what it means to be a university student-such as things we share in common/ the struggles we face/ and the experiences we have. As a class we came up with negative and positive factors which may impact the experience of a university student. These included things such as stress & mental health, balancing busy work schedules, getting assessment in on time, travelling to uni, issues with parking, participation in tutorials and thinking about the future. With the help of my bcm212 peers, I am able to start thinking about constructing a research question for my project.

I’m not 100% certain as to what I want my research question to be about BUT with a few ideas in mind I headed over to twitter and posted a potential idea in hope to receive some feedback. My research question was: “Does compulsory attendance/ participation in tutorials increase levels of anxiety and stress? I’m curious if this leads to people dropping out or skipping class?” I think more broadly, the reason why I want to go down this pathway of mental health/ stress is because there have been many times where I’ve struggled with confidence & feelings of nervousness and worry during my time at university. For example having to answer questions in front of a bunch of strangers and getting it wrong… Ughh not fun… I think many of us can relate to this!

As we only have only have 13 weeks to complete this project, I plan on using qualitative and quantitative research methods to collect data/ opinions which will hopefully give me a better insight and understanding of my topic. I’m excited to see if my findings either prove or disprove my research question. With this potential question in mind I am now going to the web to see if I can find secondary soruces that will support my question.

I would love some feedback! So let me know your thoughts. Xx
